The Small Batch series of wines have been developed as a means of showcasing the creativity of our viticulture and winemaking teams. Each year the teams work closely to trial new varieties, blends and techniques. The Small Batch wines represent their successes.
While winter rainfall in the south west was below average, the driest since 2014, the near average rainfall and above average temperatures that followed in Spring provided the vines with adequate water reserves and sunshine to commence the growing season.
Multiple tropical cyclones (Hilda, Joyce and Kelvin) battered the north of the state throughout Summer; fortunately these weather systems only had a minor impact on the south west and provided the vines with additional water resources at the right times to keep the vines fresh and healthy. The Summer of 2017/18 was particularly mild and meant that the ripening of each of the varieties was gradual resulting in excellent intensity of varietal characters.
The Rojo Grande wine style draws inspiration from the wines of the Iberian peninsula. Wine styles that are grown and made reflecting the environment they are consumed in.
A vibrant red wine that ventures away from the traditional single varietal wines to a blend that reflects the diversity of the regions it was sourced from. The wine is a medium bodied style displaying cherry and red berry fruits with a touch of spice and a savoury finish.
