An excellent lead-up to harvest saw moderate yields and good berry size with cooler conditions for most of the growing season in Pemberton. A vintage without extremes of heat and later ripening than recent vintages saw fruit ripen slowly and steadily. Picked at optimum maturity then made in a way that combines old and new world techniques.
A wine of delicacy and finesse with aromatic spice, providing texture and complexity. The handpicked fruit was carefully sorted and fermented in small open top fermenters keeping each clonal batch separate. Twenty five percent whole bunches were used in the ferments and natural yeasts were promoted. Each parcel was pressed into 30% new French oak to complete fermentation. Following 10 months maturation in oak without racking, the parcels were blended, fined and filtered.
