What does it take to be a winemaker at Houghton?

Truthfully, at lot of patience, dedication, hard work and an outstanding palate, plus our winemakers must first work alongside the Houghton senior winemaker, learning the distinctive Houghton style, for many years until they can become top winemaker at Houghton.   

Our current winemaker, Ross Pamment is only the 13th winemaker in all of Houghton’s history.

Paired alongside our winemaking strength is our credible selection of vineyards. We source grapes from the original Swan Valley vineyard, the Gingin vineyard, plus premium grape-growing regions in the South West including Margaret River, Great Southern and the emerging Pemberton area.

Ross has over 22 years winemaking experience, of which 13 have been at Houghton.
